We woke at 11pm to some light rain which was a little off putting, we looked at the radar and it was a consistent light drizzle for another few hours. We knew if we decide to stay the rain would stop or if we went it’d probably pour down. We decided to get wet as the wind& sea conditions were perfect. I was hoping I wouldn’t have to put on my boots for the rest of our trip, we even packed them away. Grrr! We fished them out and put them on with the rest of our wet weather gear and lifted a well stuck anchor. The mud in the pond has a not so pleasant smell to it, I’m glad Dean has that job.

As we got further north the rain stopped and the stars came out. We were in for a sunny morning.

We had another perfect sail. The wind was a little more north than we would have liked but with the calms seas & consistent wind Time Flies averaged 5.7kn. The wind died as we came to Double island point, as we were well ahead of time we were happy to keep sailing for a while.

Double Island Point

Wide Bay Bar, Fraser Island

We reached WBB at 9:30am, low tide was at 9:07am, a little earlier than we would have liked. We watched the bar for a few minutes deciding it was calm enough for us to cross. We cautiously followed the leads we got from the Coast guard and safely navigated the entrance to the “Mad Mile” with a minimum depth of 3.1m. The mad mile was very calm, you can see that you would not cross the mad mile on a rough day as the breaking waves over the sand bars were quite ferocious.

We headed to Garry’s Anchorage where we decided to spend a couple of nights. This is a very calm anchorage, we anchored in 3.5m of water and I enjoyed a swim and watched the resident turtle swim by.
